Creation Process |
 |
T he creation process is a long and very thought out process. The first step in the process is to sit down with the client and find out what they're hopes and dreams are for the work of furniture they are requesting. This initial meeting helps to give Joseph B. an understanding about the client's surroundings, what they like, who they are, and what they are looking for.
F rom this point, Joseph B. will begin the design step for the particular work. This design step includes 2 or 3 initial drawings of various ideas that Joseph has for the work. Upon completion, again Joseph B. meets with the client to seek approval on design direction. After client approval, the production stage begins.
T he production stage begins with a full scale drawing of the work. This drawing shows all of the joints, miters, tennons, and every other intricate detail about the work. This drawing will be used throughout the remainder of the production process as a continual point of reference. |

O nce full scale drawings have been completed, Joseph B. is able to fully see the work in a two dimensional form. At this point, the bill of materials is created. From previous created works, Joseph B. uses a wide variety of solid wood, and veneer in exotic woods stemming from Africa and the Pacific Islands to domestic woods from North America. Most all of the materials used are hand picked from Joseph B.'s distributors in New York.
A fter the arrival of all the materials the actual production begins. All work pieces are cut and shaped to oversize specifications. Any molds for curved sections of the work are designed, fitted, and built. All miters and joints are cut and the process of mortis and tennoning is also begun. All veneer work is book matched and layed up. After all the pieces have been recut to actual size, and all veneer work completed the actual assembly of the work is begun. Once assembly is complete the work is sanded and the finish applied.
W hen the work of art is complete in entirety, a final meeting will be held so that the client can get a first look at the completed work. After final approval, Joseph B. personally hand delivers the work. |
